Dental Software Guide (dentalstack.io) publishes independent reviews, comparisons, and buying guides for dental practice management software. We help dentists, office managers, and practice owners find the right software for their specific needs and budget.
We focus exclusively on dental practice management platforms — the core software that runs your scheduling, charting, billing, and patient communication. We don't review general business tools or tangential dental products.
Our Methodology
Every dental software platform we review is scored from 1.0 to 5.0 across six weighted dimensions. The overall rating is a weighted average of these scores:
Ease of Use
20%Interface intuitiveness for front desk staff, hygienists, and dentists. We measure onboarding time, daily workflow efficiency, and how quickly a new team member becomes productive.
Scheduling & Patient Management
20%Appointment booking, recall systems, patient portal, automated reminders, and multi-provider scheduling. Tested against real-world scenarios including double-bookings and hygiene recalls.
Insurance & Billing
20%Electronic claims submission, ERA posting, insurance verification, patient billing, and aging reports. We evaluate claim rejection rates, days in AR, and denied claim workflows.
Charting & Clinical Features
15%Tooth charting, treatment planning, clinical notes, perio charting, and imaging integration. Evaluated on whether charting supports clinical decision-making, not just compliance.
Support & Reliability
15%Response times, support quality, uptime track record, data backup, and critical issue handling. We note whether support is included or costs extra.
Value for Money
10%Total cost of ownership — subscription, implementation, training, support, and add-ons — relative to features and practice size. Lower-cost tools that cover your needs score higher than expensive platforms with unused features.
Our evaluation process includes vendor demos, hands-on testing of trial accounts, interviews with 3-5 real users per platform, and direct pricing verification. No vendor sees or approves our reviews before publication.

- Annually:Complete methodology review and scoring weight adjustments based on market shifts.
